Join us starting this Saturday at 4pm for the Grand Re-Opening of the Safe House Museum. There opening will feature a gallery opening of the Paul R. Jones Collection of American Art, curated by the University of Alabama. Films produced by the Documenting Justice class at U of A will also be exhibited. We hope to see you there.

the concrete pour was a SUCCESS! and we had lots of help.

MANY THANKS to…

Fuller, David, Zane, Brett, Ed, Larry, Max, & Crash

form work for the connector & reception. we pour walls first then the slab…to prevent ugly cold joints and the risk of form work blow-outs.

testing the 3m museum letters that bill dooley sent us. THEY WORKED!

now we just need to decide on a font and sizing for the text, titles, and captions throughout the museum.

in architecture school you DRAW sections…but this is the REAL DEAL.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Mr. Scott Williams for donating over 24 trees to The Safe House Project…as you can see our flowering pears are FLOWERING! ahhhh spring time…

porch restored (almost)

spring time

great news…the weather has been lovely out.  in the past 2 days we have been restoring the front porch on the safe house museum.  in case ya’ll have forgotten the museum porch used to be the office for the board of directors.  we have since provided them with a beautiful office in the other shot gun house.

in other news…cassandra and chris are growing quite weary having to hear my rendition of gene wilder’s “spring time” from willy wonka on a daily basis. the real version can be heard here…

meetin’ of the minds

stop. collaborate. and listen

we are super pumped about collaborating with two amazing groups of students & professors from the university of alabama. this past friday both groups made the trek to the safehouse museum and made presentations about their progress so far.  bill dooley and the students from the art department presented pieces they had selected from the Paul R. Jones collection for our first upcoming gallery show that will be held at the end of may! the show will remain at the safe house gallery for 6-8 weeks so everyone HAS to come and check it out this summer!!  We are so lucky to have this opportunity!

we are also collaborating with andrew grace and the students involved with “documenting justice” at UA.  the students are gathering oral histories from local footsoldiers that were involved in the civil rights movement.  they are producing short films that will then be displayed on ipads throughout the safe house museum. visitors will be able to meet these people and follow their stories throughout their tour.  we feel that the oral histories are an important new layer to the safe house museum and will provide visitors with a more personal experience.
